The Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission, on Monday urged people of the state to plant economic trees to boost their revenue profile.
The Commission’s Chairman, Malam Lawal Maidoki, made the call during the distribution of Zakkat proceeds in Dange/Shuni Local Government Area of the state.
“The importance of planting economic trees cannot be over emphasised, as it generates income, provide shelter and protect the soil. It will also support employment generation,” he said.
The chairman also called on parents to ensure that their children were enrolled in school to become more productive and useful in the future.
According to him, education is the best legacy that parents can bequest to their children as it will make them have a bright future.
Maidoki commended members of the District Zakkat Committee for their perseverance and selfless service.
In their remarks, the District Heads of Dange and Shuni, Alhaji Bello Usman and Alhaji Muhammad Jabbi appealed to well to do individuals in the state to give out Zakkat and endowment as enshrined in the teachings of Islam.
The district heads said 101 bags of grains and N341, 000 were collected as Zakkat in their domain for distribution to the needy.
The Guest Speaker, Dr Sani Jos urged people to give out Zakkat for distribution to the needy, as “such act purifies once heart, wealth and individual deeds.
“It also ease the suffering of the less privilege in the society, secure their living standard and prevent any natural disaster that will harm the people living in such communities,” he added.
