Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment COMMISSION, Nigeria. on Tuesday flagged off the 2018 Tree Waqaf planting campaign and inaugurated the School Orchard waqaf Volunteer Committee saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the Establishment of School Orchard Waqf in 47 Boarding Schools across the State.
The Sokoto State Governor Rt. HON Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR, who was ably represented by Secretary to Sokoto State Goverment Prof. Bashir Garba, inaugurated the committees and also performed the symbolic Tree Waqaf planting along with His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar mni, CFR and other dignitaries. He Commended the efforts of SOZECOM and that of His Eminence for working round the clock towards ensuring hitch free success of the program and also reiterated the important of Tree planting in our environment.
Initially, the Executive Chairman of Sokoto State Zakat and endowment commission Muhammad Lawal Maidoki delivered a brief explanation on the objectives and motives behind the program which includes rural poverty alleviation, protection of our environment, source of reward from Allah as it's one of the Sadaqatul Jariyah (Incessant Charity), economic growth etc. He added that this yearly program is widened to 86 Districts again where seedlings will be distributed including dates, moringa, tamarind, cashew, etc. He revealed that some Districts have already secured the plot of land where these trees Waqaf will be planted.
On School Orchard Waqf, the Chairman revealed that the arrangement and MOU has already been made with Ministry of Basic Education, Ministry of Science and Technical Education and Ministry of Environment for the success of the program. He added that the program will be extended to all Boarding Secondary Schools in the State. The guest speaker of the event Prof. A.D Isah presented a paper where he shed more light on the Economic and Environmental benefits of tree planting in our Environment.
In his remark, His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar min, CFR, reiterated the importance of tree planting and applauds the efforts of Sokoto State Government on the maximum cooperation given to the program and pledges to hold a regular monitoring and supervision of the waqaf Orchard. He further urged all the schools management to take an appropriate care for the positive output of the Orchard. The Principal of Government Girls College , Sokoto Dr. Fatima Binta Musa thanked the management of SOZECOM for choosing their school for the launching. She further pledged to take appropriate care of the waqaf orchard.
Among the Dignitaries that blessed the event were Acting Director Waqf Alhaji Jabbi Illelar Dabore, Acting Director Administration Ibrahim Jeli Goronyo, Waqf Central working Committee, Sozecom Staff, representatives of Islamic Organizations and many schorlas among the others.
