The National Zakat Board (BAZNAS) recorded an increase of the zakat collection by 31.8 percent. This is the total collection of zakat and other religious funds from BAZNAS and Private Zakat Institutions (LAZ) throughout Indonesia.

The data will be reported in full and detail at the beginning of 2019. From the record, Central BAZNAS collection shows tremendous increase exceeding the target of Rp. 203 billion this year. The remark was delivered by BAZNAS Chairman, Prof. Dr. Bambang Sudibyo MBA, CA at the Press Conference 2018 here in Jakarta on Friday (28/12). Bambang said, the increasing number could not be separated from the overall zakat performance starting from zakat collection as well as the disbursement benefiting the mustahik.

"This year's zakat fund distribution programs are more measurable by providing assistance and monitoring programs, which make mustahik have greater benefits," he said.

BAZNAS established 156 Z-Mart Shops, 4 units of the BAZNAS Microfinance Village (BMD), 4 units of Food Barn, 17 Livestock Community and 74 Zakat Community Development (ZCD) projects.

He added throughout 2018, Central BAZNAS specifically helped 768,886 beneficiaries. BAZNAS also publish 30 research books, including a study to measure the empowerment program through the Village Zakat Index Book, International Journal of Zakat, and the Risk Management Book for Zakat Management.

In terms of collection, BAZNAS developed various campaigns with the tagline "Zakat Awakening" to provide and excel the muzaki services, by opening all donation channels.

"The birth of various zakat innovations by BAZNAS was marked by the acceptance of three awards this year, namely the Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA), 2018 Republika Award and Indonesia Community Engagement Award (ICEA) as one of the benchmarks of public recognition for BAZNAS," he said.

BAZNAS also plays its role at the regional and global level through the collaboration of zakat institutions in Southeast Asia and the world as well including helping Palestinian and Rohingya communities. BAZNAS also supports the development of zakat management in Africa countries.

"We are very grateful, BAZNAS received various supports and congratulations for the achievements from the national and international community," Bambang said.

BAZNAS has made rapid progress in utilizing digital zakat technology by providing easy zakat through 26 digital channels such as social media, large online stores, artificial intelligence tech, conversational applications to make use of digital financial services that are widely used by the community. It includes Kitabisa, Jenius, Gopay, Gojek, OV, Tcash, Kaskus, Lenna, Shopee, Tokopedia, Lazada, Matahari Mall, Oy! Indonesia and Line (Zaki).

BAZNAS also encourages the birth of community services through digital technology such as providing the Search for Disaster Victims app (Cari Temu) that helps people finding lost relatives, especially in the disasters affected areas such as in Palu and Banten.

On the national scale, the total collection of zakat of BAZNAS, LAZ and the Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ) can only be known at the end of December, but is expected to reach IDR 8.1 trillion.

"We have not been able to calculate the collection in December, but we expect an average increase of 30.5 percent from an annual achievement of 6.24 Trillion, so we can get an estimated number of Rp. 8,1 Trillion"he said.

This strengthens BAZNAS effort to continuously provide the best service, improve its capacity, especially to manage zakat in city and provincial levels. BAZNAS will encourage the zakat collection program to increase by more than 40 percent in 2019. BAZNAS will attempt to further encourage Muslim to pay zakat via BAZNAS, LAZ and UPZ including elements of the National Civil Apparatus (ASN), TNI (Arm Forces), National Police, and employees at BUMN (State Owned Enterprise).

"In 2019 we still hope to help the government in alleviating poverty by as many as 250 thousand poor in Indonesia," Bambang said. (/end)
