Jakarta: Some 300 zakat (alms) managers from 28 nations will attend an international conference of the World Zakat Forum (WZF) this month. The event will be organized in Bandung, West Java Province, on November 5-7, 2019. According to the WZF secretary general Bambang Sudibyo, his year's WZF conference is themed, "Optimizing Global Zakat Role through Digital Technology.
With the current progress achieved in technology, zakat managers are challenged to improve and expedite their services along with making the public more sentient of the benefits of zakat for Muslims worldwide. Opened by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, the opening ceremony will also be attended by Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi and Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi and other officials.
Digital technology has enabled zakat managers to have swift access to the needs of zakat recipients (mustahik)."Our hope is to have a larger zakat collection and spread the distribution of alms for poor all over the world," he stated.
The conference will feature 25 speakers to speak on zakat management in the digital era, including Dr Syed Zafar from India, Dr Elnur Salihovic from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki from Nigeria, and Dr M Ayub Miah from Bangladesh. (Antara)
